As I've noted above, I uploaded a new version, and this time it works correctly in CS5 (along with a few other improvements).

David- I'm getting what the Loosetoon is getting, as well. Exactly. Any idea what we're doing wrong? And if you have this thing for CS3, I'd be thrilled!

Either way, this is a dream come true. I remember having to export an Illustrator file and having to do this sort of thing in there, then import it all back into Flash. What a mess! You're a pioneer. :)

I'm sorry for my delay in responding -- I didn't have a chance to try out the command in CS5 until today. I figured out a solution to the problem and I'll put up a new version of the art brush extension soon (along with another version of it with which you can actually recolor your brush stroke to whatever the current paint color is. Not only that, I think there's a good chance that this new version will work (mostly) in older versions of Flash (all the way back to MX 2004). Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to post the fixed brush extension tonight or tomorrow. Sorry for the bug....

The scripts from this post (as well as most of my other Flash extensions) are written in Javascript. The easiest way to begin writing your own scripts is to use the history panel (Window > Other Panels > History). You can either select entries in the history panel and right-click and select "save as command" or you can copy them and paste them into your own .jsfl file. You can find a full reference for the Flash CS4 javascript interface here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Flash/10.0_Welcome/WS4B6763DC-55A7-4d14-ACC3-8B4075B75B81.html

Beyond that, there are a lot of details to get into that are beyond the scope of a blog comment. You could do a Google search for JSFL (which stands for "Javascript for Flash) and see what other people have done to get some ideas. You could also find the book "Extending Flash MX 2004", which I think is the only book that's been written on the subject and still covers the fundamentals very well. Adobe hasn't updated the extension interface for Flash much at all, aside from adding a few more API calls along the way.

Hi,

I'd like to know how do you write those plugins for flash. Do you have any tutorials about the subject?
And thank you for sharing this plugin.

David, this is brilliant! Kudos, to you sir, for fulfilling a wish I had given up on. I've only tinkered with it a bit, but I'm impressed. I realize it only does one thing, but it seems to do it quite well. Now I have to track down a batch execute script.

You should consider putting a PayPal donate button on this site, and then post this plug-in to the Cold Hard Flash forums. It will be much appreciated over there.
